While the Blenders group that he once sang with never came to fruition, de Loache is better remembered for creating a six panel, allegorical mural series to document Black people's struggles.
The images, which were commissioned based by the NAACP, were inspired by James Weldon Johnson's poem “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” After reportedly mulling over the concept for three years, de Loache painted the murals in a only a couple of weeks. Six main panels, are included in Lift Every Voice and Sing --each four feet wide and eight-feet height, and six much smaller supporting panels on historical subjects. In a December 1970 address delivered at the Lawless Memorial Chapel at Dillard University of New Orleans, the chairman of N.A.A.C.P.’s board of directors presented, the Amistad Research Center with de Loache’s Lift Every Voice murals “depicting the total struggle for freedom of Black Americans under the constitution.”
