Dr. Molefi Kete Asante, widely considered one of the most influential scholars of African and African American culture, philosophy and education, served as Chair of the Department of African American Studies at Temple Univesity.
A graduate of Oklahoma Christian College (1964), Asante also received a Master of Arts from Pepperdine University and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
Asante is a renowned author and scholar who has authored and co-edited several publications with noted scholars such as Maulana Karegna and Cheikh Anta Diop. His most seminal works include The Dramatic Genius of Charles Fuller and Erasing Racism: The Survival of the American Nation.
A visual artist as well, during the mid-1990’s Asante participated in a scholarly lecture series at the Amistad Research Center. Three of Asante’s artworks, taken from his manuscript collection at the Center, were exhibited during his visit.
