Research

The Amistad Research Center has a library with over 20,000 books and periodicals that document ethnic history. The library is non-circulating, which means that materials cannot be checked out of the Center. Periodicals and books may be viewed in the Reading Room. Staff can make photocopies for researchers within the bounds of U.S. Copyright Law.

Using the Library
All of Amistad's books are in
Tulane University's Online Catalog.

In order to look at a book from the Library, the researcher must search the Online Catalog and bring the Title, Author and Call Number to the Reference Desk.

Researchers can search the catalog using their computer at home or by using the public access computer at the Center. Reference staff will be pleased to provide tips on advance searching.

Tulane University's subscription databases, which provide access to indexes and full-text articles, can also be searched using the Center's computer. Reference staff will be pleased to help researchers use the databases.

To find out if we have a particular title or issue, please contact the Reference Desk using the Online Reference Form or by calling 504-862-3222.
