COPYRIGHT WARNING
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, US Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

PHOTOCOPIES
Photocopies from the archives and library of the Amistad Research Center are provided as a service for research purposes only. The purchase of a photocopy does not constitute a purchase of the material or its contents. Photocopy service is contingent upon the following conditions:

— Requests are subject to U.S. Copyright Law.
— Restricted collections and fragile materials may not be copied.
— Staff will not copy an entire collection or a large portion thereof.
— All services depend on the availability of the photocopies and staff assistants. Same day service may not be possible.
— Payment must be made in advance.

PHOTOGRAPH REPRODUCTION
The Amistad Research Center may provide a copy of a photograph for research purposes. This service does not include doing extensive photographic research in the collections. For more information on locating photographs, please visit our page on Photograph Collections. Photograph reproduction is contingent upon the following conditions:

— Requests are subject to U.S. Copyright Law.
— The Director of Library and Archives must approve reproduction requests before any copies are made.
— Fragile photographs may not be copied.

PUBLICATION AND CITATION
Manuscript Material - Many donors of manuscript collections to the Amistad Research Center have not transferred literary rights. The researcher is responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright holder. Please review our Guidelines for Publication of Manuscript Materials for the address, use fees and a list of required information.

Photographs - Permission for publication of photographs must be granted by the Amistad Research Center. The application for permission is part of the Photograph Request Form. The Center does not hold copyright for many of its photographs. Permission for publication from the Amistad Research Center does not absolve the researcher or publisher of responsibility for obtaining permission from the copyright holder.
